The Beauty of Castor Oil.

It was in Botany Class that I learnt that Castor oil was listed as one of the most poisonous plants in the world according to 2007 Edition of Guinness World Record. No No Don't throw out your bottle of Castor Oil yet.

The poisonous toxin called Ricin (This is cause the botanical name of Castor plant is Ricinus communis) is contained in the hull of the beans of castor and the oil is produced by pressing ripe seeds that have had their hulls removed (Its a good thing I kept my class notes, who wan dey remember all these things😒😒)

Castor oil is a very thick and heavy oil, it is antibacterial and antifungal. It is also rich in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins and Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids.

It is beneficial against dandruff and scalp infections. It also helps increase circulation to the scalp and improves hair growth. Castor oil makes your hair thicker, improves follicles and scalp health, boosts hair growth, darkens chair and makes hair less prone to breakage.

Castor oil is also a humectant meaning it attracts and retains moisture in hair and skin. However it may not be so great for low porosity hair (Porosity is your hair's ability to absorb moisture and is broken into three: Low, normal/medium and high porosity). To know your hair porosity; pull out a strand of hair and float it in a large bowl of water, if the hair strand floats at the top and takes a long time to sink to the bottom, Your strands are low porosity i.e resistant to receive water and moisture. If it dances💃💃 midway in the bowl and takes a Lil while to sink, you have normal/medium porosity hair. If it sinks to the bottom immediately, it is high porosity hair i.e your hair absorbs quickly and loses moisture quickly.

When you use castor oil on a highly porous hair, it dries forming a hard film that makes it hard for your hair to lose moisture easily. Using it on low porosity hair would likely result in you having dry, frizzy hair because it will make it a bit hard to absorb moisture.

Castor oil could very easily create a constant buildup on your scalp since its very thick so you can mix with a much lighter oil like argan, jojoba or rosemary oil. If not, use in small amounts, Less is more; using lots of anything doesn't increase its benefits. It just creates build up on your scalp.

Castor oil is best used on moist/damp hair...

Oh Castor oil helps in making eyelashes grow and get thicker👌

What's your experience with Castor Oil?

P.s the porosity test should not be done on dirty and product covered hair. This will give you a false reading as the product will prevent the hair from absorbing the water.
