LEEDS, England — A member of Parliament was gunned down outside a library in northern England as she was wrapping up a meeting with constituents on Thursday afternoon, a rare act of gun violence in a nation that strictly regulates firearms. The lawmaker, Jo Cox, 41, who was considered a rising star in the opposition Labour Party and a passionate advocate for victims of the civil war in Syria, was shot in Birstall, a town about six miles southwest of the city of Leeds. A 77-year-old man was slightly injured in the attack. A 52-year-old man was arrested in Ms. Cox’s killing, and the police said they were not looking for any other suspects. No motive has been established, officials said. The suspect was identified in the British news media as Thomas Mair. Labour MP Jo Cox is in a critical condition after she was shot outside a library in Birstall by a man allegedly shouting ‘Britain First’. Witnesses said the 41-year-old was kicked by her attacker as she lay on the floor and that she was shot repeatedly. It’s also believed she was stabbed and dragged along by her hair. The Batley and Spen MP was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary and a 52-year-old man has been arrested. An eyewitness alleged that the attacker repeatedly shouted ‘Britain First’ while stabbing and shooting her then walked away calmly. Cafe owner Clarke Rothwell said: ‘He shot this lady once and then he shot her again, he fell to the floor, leant over shot her once more in the face area.’ Others have suggested she was intervening in a scuffle when she was attacked. A pastor and an apostle were today, Friday June 17, caught pants down in Ngwo community of Enugu North Local Government of Enugu State. Below is an eyewitness account shared with Newest Rivers:  "Around 1.00am in the morning two men were caught having sexual intercourse. One of them is a pastor and the other is known as an apostle. The so called pastor who was discovered to be the man in the gay relationship had been reported earlier to the vigilante group of Ngwo neighborhood by a boy of twelve who claimed he was raped by the pastor and had Fluid poured into his mouth after the abuse.  The vigilante group did not prosecute the pastor after the report because there was no concrete evidence. Nigerian Prophet, T.B. Joshua, has splashed N6m ($30,000) on over a hundred Nigerian deportees who arrived from Libya on the evening of Thursday 16th June, 2016.  According to media reports, 162 Nigerians were deported from the North African nation with the aid of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Swiss government and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya. However, rather than return home, 107 decided to 'seek refuge' at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), the popular Lagos-based church of T.B. The militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, has given seven governors in the South-East and South-South geo-political zones a 72-hour ultimatum to facilitate the release of pro-Biafran agitators held by the military and the police in their respective states or risk attack on their convoys. The group also warned the military and the police that it will attack their stations or bases should this deadline be ignored. The warning, which the group said is the last one, was contained in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Brigadier-General Mudoch Agbinibo. Factional leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Solomon Chukwu on Thursday dismised reports linking the pro-Biafra agitators to resurgent militant group, Niger Delta Avengers. Speaking through the group’s Director of Information, Mr Sunday Okereafor, the factional leader of the group said unlike Avengers who are armed, MASSOB members are non-violent, Punch reports. Chukwu described the pro-Biafra group as ill, obnoxious and nefarious. “Avengers are militants. Their philosophy, ideology, concept, mission and vision are quite extraneous from MASSOB,”

One hundred and sixty stranded Nigerians in Libya, on Thursday, June 16, were returned back from Tripoli via Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the support of the Swiss government.  They were received on arrival by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) which coordinated other relevant government agencies in the screening and profiling of the returnees before providing temporary accommodation for them, feeding and helping to transport them home to reunite with their families.  The returnees made up of 132 males, 27 females and 3 children were flown to Nigeria in a chartered Boeing 737 aircraft operated by Ghadames Air under Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) arrangement after they indicated their intentions to come back home from Libya. Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has reacted to the recent protest by pensioners in the state.  The elderly pensioners on Wednesday, June 15, took to the streets of the state capital to demonstrate over non payment of their entitlements by the government. This suicide bombers were killed by Civilian JTF at Kusari area near CBN Staff Quarters in Maiduguri, Borno state today June 17th. The suicide bombers were heading to a mosque to detonate the bombs strapped on them when they were stopped by some members of the state vigilante group. They were gunned down after they tried to escape while they were being questioned. A search carried out on them showed they had bombs strapped on their body.  *viewer discretion advised*

Bodies of 34 migrants, including 20 children who were abandoned by people smugglers while trying to reach neighbouring Algeria were found in the Niger desert last week, authorities said Wednesday, June 15.  "Thirty-four people, including five men, nine women and 20 children died trying to cross the desert,” Niger’s interior ministry said in a statement. "They probably died of thirst, as is often the case, and they were found near Assamaka,” a security source said, referring to a border post between Niger and Algeria.  “The migrants were abandoned by people smugglers,” the statement added, and only two of the bodies have so far been identified – a man and a 26-year-old woman both from Niger.  Two unidentified Europe-bound Nigerians were among the dead.
