June 17, 2016

The militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, has given seven governors in the South-East and South-South geo-political zones a 72-hour ultimatum to facilitate the release of pro-Biafran agitators held by the military and the police in their respective states or risk attack on their convoys. The group also warned the military and the police that it will attack their stations or bases should this deadline be ignored. The warning, which the group said is the last one, was contained in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Brigadier-General Mudoch Agbinibo.

I Did Everything i Could to clean up Ogoni land..

June 02, 2016

The Minister of Transport and former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has said that immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, clearly turned his deaf ears to the plight of the Ogoni people and the Niger Delta in general. Amaechi, who in his address at the flag-off of the implementation of the UNEP report on Ogoniland acknowledged the presence of his successor, Nyesom Wike, lamented that he did everything within his power as a governor to make Jonathan implement the UNEP report on Ogoniland. He said, “We did everything possible as a sitting government to make the president implement the UNEP report, everything. But the report was not implemented after all.” Amaechi noted that the 1b dollar clean up exercise would create jobs for the people of the region. He, however, thanked the President Buhari -led administration for coming to the aid of the Ogoni people and for fulfilling part of his campaign promises of cleaning up the region.

How to store Cut Yam..

July 19, 2016

Couple of readers have asked this question, but of course in different ways – “how do I properly store a cut yam?”, “how can I store yam after I cut it without spoiling?”. We are going to talk about this topic today in order to address their questions. Often we buy large tubers of Yam and need to only cook a small portion of it when we need to eat. So, what are you going to do with the remaining tuber? If you leave it that way, it grows mould and gets spoiled or turns brown and hard that you have to peel it off. When the questions came, I though this should not be a problem for anyone because there is a way I saw mum do it while growing up and it worked every time. So, I took some time out and spoke to different people, asking them how they preserve their cut yam tuber. I got a lot of interesting answers and I will address the most shocking one first. Someone told me she just leaves the yam that way and cut off the spoiled part when next she needs ...

LEARNING TO SPEAK LIKE THE BRITISH AND AMERICAN ACCENT.

July 10, 2017

I love British and American accents. Yeah, I do. I love the way many Brits omit the ‘t’ from ‘forget’ as if to challenge their ancestors about what they feel is an unnecessary inclusion of that letter at the end of that word. I like to listen to Americans talk. A black American stressing his words as his hands speak a visual language of their own, is a spectacle I always find exciting to watch. His dramatic sentences can begin first as words jogging on a plain, and then sharply shooting up to the mountains where one word—just one word—becomes a sustained marathon of music that suddenly dives into the calm sea of normal speech. I love British and American accents. Seriously. What I don’t like is the imitation (and subsequent corruption) of these lovely ways of speaking the English language. It is amusing to listen to Nigerians, who have never crossed the borders of the motherland, talking to their fellow citizens with a foreign accent. I find...
