LEARNING TO SPEAK LIKE THE BRITISH AND AMERICAN ACCENT.

I love British and American accents. Yeah, I do. I love the way many Brits omit the ‘t’ from ‘forget’ as if to challenge their ancestors about what they feel is an unnecessary inclusion of that letter at the end of that word. I like to listen to Americans talk. A black American stressing his words as his hands speak a visual language of their own, is a spectacle I always find exciting to watch. His dramatic sentences can begin first as words jogging on a plain, and then sharply shooting up to the mountains where one word—just one word—becomes a sustained marathon of music that suddenly dives into the calm sea of normal speech. I love British and American accents. Seriously. What I don’t like is the imitation (and subsequent corruption) of these lovely ways of speaking the English language. It is amusing to listen to Nigerians, who have never crossed the borders of the motherland, talking to their fellow citizens with a foreign accent. I find...

TOLERANCE..

TOLERANCE A 30-year-old man visited his old father who could no longer see very well. As both of them sat in front of his house chatting, a dove flew in and perched  on the window. I gladly replied "yes" to each question. I cannot e...

Women who tell their real ages are now hardly believed because of the perception that women never tell their real age. The Home front sought to find out why women hide their real ages.  Muibat Asiyu Suleiman, a beautician said women lie about their age to make them appear younger before other people. Asked if lying about their age really makes them appear younger, or make people think they are younger than they are , she said it does not make them younger but since they already have that mentality they just continue to do it.   Grace Adams, a civil servant said lying about age is not only done by women but it is a ‘Nigerian thing’.  She said: “In fact these days men lie more about their age than women for a lot of reasons like to secure employment, attract younger girls or just for the fun of it.
